Q: Ive just got a leaflet through the post about a collection of clothes to be sent to the Third World where the garments will be carefully sorted and worn again.... I thought it was strange when they said i could include cosmetics, perfume, handbags and toys... Ive never seen this on a donation leaflet before so i googled the company name/no. and found nothing. A: I too have had one of these leaflets. I don't know for certain if it's a scam but it is very similar to others that have been distributed in our area in South Wales. These companies usually give a small donation to the cause they claim to help, to keep it legal, but are really a business which will make plenty money out of the things given to them freely. I wouldn't give to this sort of cause at all. There are better ways of helping people in the situation described on the leaftet where you can be sure the money will help those in need and the goods that you do have to give away would be gratefully accepted by charity shops in your own area.
