What financial help is there to study in tafe?

Q: I'm 18, have a good for my age, trying to pay off a brand new 25 thousand dollar car that I have recently signed a contract for, and I want to study something different in tafe next year, but wondering how I can, coz I don't want to be in debt of my car, and coz I don't know how I will be able to have the money for both a tafe course and a car at the same time. Are there any government help services in Australia, that can surport people in a situation like mine, who want to study more, but don't have the money to? Thanks a mill. :] And if it helps too, I still live with my parents so for the 1st year at least I wouldn't have to pay rent. :]

A: Ella, for TAFE study there is financial aid (Youth Allowance), available through Centrelink. But it depends on a number of factors; including your income and that of your parents (because you are living at home, they are means-tested). For more information; this is the relevant website: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/individuals/st_index.htm The best idea would be to read up on your eligibility and then go see them to make enquiries and applications. Alternatively your TAFE should have this information too.
