Q: I looked on their website yesterday and see that they are advertising the SAME JOB at the SAME company I am working for, for 1.10p an hour MORE than I receive... Is this legal? I told everyone who also works there , they have rang the agency up and they say they know nothing about this... wel, its THEIR website! I`ve printed the advert off as proof - can they take new people on and give them 1.10p an hour more than me? Is there some sort of Ombudsman I can complain to?
A: Yes, there is always wiggle room w/ temp companies/employment agencies. When I started working @ mine, the job I was hired to do was billed out at a rate lower than what it is being billed out now. Most of the time it is a cost of living thing. Depending on how long you've been w/ the company you have the right to ask for that wage. If you're good at the job and like it, it couldn't hurt to ask for the higher rate.
