Is there a website that you can go to to find out your employment history?

Q: I have changed jobs alot over the years and have forgotten alot of the dates where I was working at certain times. Is there a place that you can go to to get all the places you have worked at and the dates? Thanks.

A: No, there is no database showing such a thing. You are the primary keeper of your employment history. If you can't recall exact dates, then give approximate dates. No employer would expect that you would remember exact dates for several jobs over several years. Mostly what employers want to see is that you have been employed or otherwise productively occupied over time, so that they can feel comfortable with hiring you, having thus seen evidence that you have stick-to-it-iveness. They also are wanting the list of employers so that they can verify your employment, thus, your truthfulness. Also, they are hoping to hear what kind of an employee you were. (But it is illegal to ask them for much more than dates, due to a tendency of some past employers to be negative out of resentment that a good employee left for employment elsewhere.)
