Q: I bought e full version of a accounting software many yrs ago and bcos it's quite outdated, I thought I get the upgrade version. But, when the company Fact Software International deliver e software to me, they wanted me to return my previous old software dongle (licence) key, then they will give me e new dongle key fr e new upgrade ver. (The software needs a dongle key to activate). if not, they will not give me the new key !! when we purchase any upgrade, must we return the old licence back to them when we actually paid for both? Their explanaton is tat we cannot have both (having 2 keys) and they are also afraid that we may sell the old one!! Is there a law dealing with those unscrupulous merchants and protecting helpless consumer like us? Kindly inform your friends n relatives not to buy any accounting software from this company.
A: Do a typo mistake and send them a fake key. You shouldn't have to pay twice for an upgrade. I, too had some trouble with Indian programmers and a medical billing software company. It was the old bait and switch routine. I kept my original software and bought a newer upgraded version from a different vendor. If everyone did this, the Indians would be back to selling curry and peddling bad tea.
