Q: I am interested in knowing how the two above companies treat their employees. I am thinking about applying for a job as a department manager at both of them. Please tell me what you like and dislike about working for these companies.. Thank You!
A: I work for Target, and my sister worked for Kmart for a short time a year ago. She was treated so badly at her job that her and my mom wrote a letter to the corporate office about the treatment she received from her superiors. I don't know specifics, but I know they constantly belittled her and called her stupid whenever they got a chance--she is a sophomore in college and has worked at Shopko Customer Service for over 4 years. Target, on the other hand, is a lot nicer to their employees. I know some people who wouldn't agree with me, but so far I have nothing bad to so. I've worked for two separate stores, and both of them have a TV in the breakroom. There is no cable hookup, but my current store has pretty much every TV series on DVD available for us to watch. We also have a PS2 with Guitar Hero on a different TV. The team leaders have always been nice and can help you with anything you need. On top of that, Target promotes a lot of volunteer work in the community. There are always different sign ups for different events in the area. Also, there are several different discounts available to you. You can get discounted travel, gym memberships, cell phone plans (verizon, t-mobile, and sprint) and cheaper tickets to concerts and events. Those are just the things I can think of off the top of my head. Good luck!
