Start New Lives in Dubai?

Q: Dear All, Both my hubby (41 yo) & I (40 yo) have Masters Degree and experiences as fit-out Project Managers for 10 years. We are Singapore PR and residing in Singapore. We are interested to move to Dubai. Is there anybody can give opinion about this idea? Is this early 40s the right time to start working in a new country like UAE? How difficult is living & working in Dubai? With our rough qualification, how much salary can my hubby get? He will start searching a job, while I will start browsing once we move there. Thanks a lot!

A: Hi! I've lived in Abu Dhabi (the capital of the UAE) and one hour drive away from Dubai for 25 years - I grew up here and this is home. I went to university and just moved back recently. I can honestly tell you that since you have experience as project managers and masters degree that you'd be able to find a suitable job with great pay and accomodation. However, I would recommend that you try Abu Dhabi as well. Dubai is great to live in but there are issues such as traffic, and a lot of construction (since the end date and completion dates are 2011). The lifestyle however is very laid back - people are very friendly - its extremely safe - and it's literally like living in paradise but having the hustle and bustle of a real city lifestyle. Abu Dhabi however is more relaxed and more family orientated where as Dubai serves a great nightlife, restaurants, museums and cafe's. It's our version of New York where Abu Dhabi would be DC. Either way though it is a great country to be a part of - even though I grew up here most of my life and call this home and would obviousely be biased, I still think that bein gin a country that's done so much in such a short time is incredible and the development schemes are impressive as well. Now is the time to move here - in another 4-5 years it will be much harder to find a job due to the influx of people, All the best to you and your husband xxx
