How is Winnipeg like?

Q: I am thinking of being an exchange student and would like to know more about winnipeg, Is there a lot of things to do there? How are the people like? How is the weather? I have heard also that there are some tornadoes in that city , is this true? If it's true, in which time, generally, that happens(month)? points for those who help me! thank you ;D

A: It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a really big city, Winnipeg is not for you. It's got a smaller town feel with the conveniences of a big city, so it's a good balance. Most people are very friendly (not like bigger cities) and are happy to help you out if you need assistance with directions or something. On the negative side, Winnipeg can be a rough town. I would stay away from downtown at night unless you're in a group, among other areas. The weather is very extreme and you probably won't be prepared for our winters. As far as tornadoes go, yes, there are tornadoes on the prairies, but I've never heard of one coming into the city and doing any damage, except on the edge of the city. As a student, you won't be able to afford to live in the suburbs anyway, so don't worry about tornadoes. That's something that affects the country, not the city. Hope this has helped you. Best of luck to you!
